EVALUATION OF COMBINING ABILITY OF SWEET CORN THROUGH LINE x TESTER ANALYSIS

Abstract

 

Two lines of sweet corn were crossed with five testers in a Line x Tester mating design. The experiment was conducted on Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications during 2020. Based on GCA effect The line 98 had good general combiner for days to 50% tasseling. Tester (98xSBY)BC3 had good general combiner for ear height, days to 50% tasseling and days to 50% silking, tester (Lia7xSBY)BC3 had good general combiner for days to 50% tasseling and days to 50% silking, tester (155xSBY)BC3 had good general combiner for number of ear row and tester SBY had good general combiner for plant height and husk cover. Based on SCA effects, the hybrids 155x(98xSBY)BC3 were identified as potential hybrid for ear height character, hybrid 155x(SBXxSBY)BC3 were identified as potential hybrid for days to 50% silking character, and hybrid 98x(98xSBY)BC3 were identified as potential hybrid for ear height, days to 50% tasseling and days to 50% silking.
